Hobart Yacht Race has become a highly anticipated event on the Australian sporting calendar and attracts global media coverage as the yachts set sail from Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day.
At 628 nautical miles, the course is often described as the most grueling long ocean race in the world. Sail crews from around the world compete in this timed race, starting from Sydney Harbour and sailing down the south-east coast of mainland Australia, across the often choppy Bass Strait and down the east coast of Tasmania to Hobart in a race for the finish line!
The Start Line
Visitors and guests are welcome to participate in the Sydney Race Village festivities from the opening of the Village until after the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart.
The Finish Line
Hobart’s waterfront is busy and buzzing, anticipating and celebrating the arrival of the boats. Once the boats start rolling in, the atmosphere at Hobart’s Constitution Dock rises excitingly, culminating in the celebration of New Year’s Eve on the waterfront.
